The Drama Faculty enjoyed Wickersley Partnership Trust’s first ever Trust-wide theatre trip to see John Godber and Jane Thornton’s Shakers – Under New Management, on Wednesday 2nd November at Hull Truck Theatre.
126 Year 10 and 11 students attended in total from Clifton Community School, The Gainsborough Academy, Rawmarsh Community School, Thrybergh Academy and Wickersley School – with four schools sharing a coach all the way to Hull.
The performance was a rework of the original text Shakers, released in 1984, and included modern references to the Covid-19 pandemic, up-to-date musical interludes and a transformation of the original characters of Mel, Nikki and Adele.
All of our students were able to recognise John Godber’s distinctive writing style in the performance, his use of multi-role, archetypes, episodic structure and direct address which they are currently studying in preparation for Component 1 of their GCSE Drama qualification.
Every single student presented exemplary behaviour throughout the trip. There were 12 members of staff, teaching and support, who commented on how well our students presented themselves both in and out of the theatre.
A great first trip out across the Trust – we are already looking forward to the next one.
Look out for further announcements later this year.
